Wales to ban travel from UK Covid hotspots

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-54540764

People from parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland that have high rates of coronavirus will be banned from travelling to Wales from Friday. It is not currently clear which areas will be subject to the new Welsh restrictions.

Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford said the move was needed "to prevent the spread of infection within Wales" and elsewhere in the UK.

It follows a row with the prime minister over whether parts of England should have travel restrictions. Mr Drakeford had written twice in recent weeks to Boris Johnson asking for travel to be restricted in and out of areas with high levels of transmission in England. The UK government has refused to do so.

Scotland's Nicola Sturgeon said she fully supported Mr Drakeford's move.
Good for Mark .....

Re: Wales to ban travel from UK Covid hotspots

Agree. I live 2 miles from the border of North Wales and often drive into there for one reason or another, but wouldn't dream of doing so during these times. Numbers of Covid cases are very low here thank God, but I wouldn't want people from high Covid areas coming here and infecting locals. So good for Mark putting police on the Welsh roads to prevent that from happening. Each area should do exactly the same, including those with high cases. Sensible people don't need telling to not travel, but of course there will always be the morons.

They have a similar rule in Victoria - regional shops are not supposed to serve customers from Melbourne BUT do regional shopkeepers want to ask everybody for their driving licence just to ensure they obey the rule? NO!

Its not travelling anywhere that matters, its what you do when you get there that does.

So, will there be "Border Posts" on all roads, Rail & Canals, going into Wales?

Making a rule is one thing, policing that rule is quite another thing!

A ban on people travelling to Wales from coronavirus hotspots elsewhere in the UK has come into effect. The ban covers all of Northern Ireland, England's tier two and three areas and the Scottish central belt. The new rules, which came into force at 18:00 BST on Friday, mean anyone coming from places in the UK with extra restrictions is now banned from entering the country.

People living in parts of England and Scotland without extra restrictions can still travel to areas of Wales which are not under local lockdowns, including Powys, Pembrokeshire and Gwynedd (apart from Bangor).
Speaking on behalf of the four Welsh police forces, North Wales Police said officers would be "proactive" in targeting those not sticking to rules on gatherings.

But the head of the Police Federation in Wales warned that the rules could be "unenforceable".
No details of control procedures have yet emerged.

Re: Wales to ban travel from UK Covid hotspots

Hi

We have a fishing competition today just over the border in Wales.

I very much doubt that any action will be taken.

We will be a minimum 10 metres apart and it is only accessible from England.

I will not be going
