Been deposited brain says thanks
Just keep filling me up with more
I’ve got such endless space to store

Make deposits and withdraw
Paint them on a canvas board
Tell some stories, write some rhymes
Whilst you still have recall time

There comes a time for new account
They call it short term – kinda swank
You drop stuff in and keep awhile
But then can forget it with a smile

There is one final memory bank
To be avoided if you can
Be warned, drop no memories there
Can’t be recalled so do take care

Making the best choice is always difficult, once I had to pick between a weekend on the French Riviera, or a couple of days with a big breasted, buxom babe, Monte Carlo or Bust?

Re: Gumbud Leisurely Scribbles (part 2)

Thanks for the cake solo.

I used to love the Mickey Spillane books when I was younger with the tough talking Mike Hammer slogging his way through life, I used to wish I could write a book like one of his, only Dublin in those days was no place to set a private detective of his ilk.

Hello, my name is Mick McBlock, I’m a Cop but not as thick as my surname. The place is Dublins fair city in 1980, alive alive oh with heroin addicts and corrupt politicians, my job is to keep it that way or I lose my job. I go on my instincts, and when I get a hunch I straighten myself up immediately. My boss is Chief Inspector Timothy Towell, known as TT to the underworld and Tea-Towel in the station canteen. He’s ambitious and greedy and there’s a piece of him in every politicians pocket, his wife and two teenage sons are heroin addicts and sit in the house all day stoned out of their heads on free dope.

Blah blah blah blah on for another 180 pages, this is where the slogging comes into writing, the pen-shovelling (there’s a new one for you RJ) filling in the part between the beginning and the end, that’s the part that always put me off.

Last chapter last paragraph.

Towel takes a bullet in the right shoulder and goes down moaning in agony as the hot lead sizzles inside his flesh, “God dammit, he’s getting away, McBlock get after him quick” The dark figure of the Skull fades into the heavy fog and disappears. THE END.

Re: Gumbud Leisurely Scribbles (part 2)

A very short version of the burial and resurrection of Rasputin the mad monk.

Yay though he walketh through the Valley of death, he wore heavy boots of the Cossack kind
And as he crossed the river Jordan he had thoughts of vestal virgins on his mind
Then resurrected in a shift of grey after the women he made his way that day, hoping for a tumble in the hay, come what may and with the least delay, and it came to pass that he did say “I’m alive!” Hip hip hooray!

Just goes to show you you can’t keep a good man down.

Re: Gumbud Leisurely Scribbles (part 2)

Forty or fifty years on
Will you still be here or just gone?
Will they still call your name
And remember you with fame

Will you still be here or just gone?

I walked around some graveyards today
Some newly laid, bright and gay
But there were many forlorn, neglected and torn

Will you still be here or just gone?

I cashed in my ‘super’ today
Seemed no point in it drifting away
May as well spend it all
And have one final ball

Will you still be here or just gone?

I have three friends left from the past
We all ask the same “how’d we last”?
Be at least were are stoic, and don’t we all know it

Will you still be here or just gone?

The grandkids all grow and move on
I think they’re still young but 21
They will talk to me at times
But must rush with the chimes

Will you still be here or just gone?

I decided to join a mens shed
The last resting place before dead
There we chat about times
That where young and sublime

Will you still be here or just gone?

Ah I see the grim reaper ahead
Now he’s stopped and beckons his head
He is pointing at me
Should I stay or just flee

Will you still be here or just gone?

Great one Gumbud, very thought provoking.

I do miss RJ, if you still look in RJ here's wishing you the best.

Yes indeed we're only human and we are all here because we are not all there.
When the devil gets his hands on me I'll make sure all me money is spent, I'll stick out me tongue, turn me backside to him and tell him that if I owe him anything he can take it out of that, then jump up and sing "Come on baby light my fire"
If on the other hand Saint Peter decides to let me through the golden gates and I have to meet all me relations and be stuck with them for eternity, I might change me mind and go back down to the other place where all the interesting people are, no shortage of a bit of hot gossip there.
