Re: The Frugal 4 Get Shafted

Solasch, really, I don't see the problem here. You're happy to be a subsidiary of Germany and part of the EU.

I just don't get why you seem so sour that the UK have left ...

Exactly why we should have left many years ago, when the EEC morphed into the EU to be precise.

When I spoke to my Dutch friends they said it was nothing to do with money or trade, it was that with the UK in the EU the Netherlands always felt safe in case Germany occupied them again.

Historically the UK has always come to the rescue of Europe and with us leaving the block they feel vulnerable.

Its all a bit too late though now

Especially since yesterday ....

I reckon they'd feel a whole lot safer if they joined us in the free world.
Like us, they are not gaining anything by being under the thumb of the EU.
People think that Italy will be the first to follow us out. Perhaps so; perhaps not. I believe that there are others who are quite likely to see the advantages of leaving when they see us flourish.

Paying their NATO contributions would also help

I couldn't agree more with what you put JBR. If the countries see more advantages in leaving they will, if they can't leave or won't leave, their businesses will.

True. I'm sure they'll receive a warm welcome here!

So it seems , by your own admission Solly that Holland has in spite
of paying in heavy contributions, been making a good profit ot of
Eu membership for the last 40yrs, as has Germany also?
But now things are going the other way and the only way out is to
borrow heavily in order to pay your bills as you are not selling enough
products anymore ?
And now you are turning your biggest european market away??
We are well shot of you!
Anything we get from eu we cann get elsewhere cheaper from now
on!

Donkeyman! 😁😁

I keep calling brexit a stupid thing to do, but I don't regret you left. On the contrary, with people like you.

Being a net contributor, the netherlands and the UK, doesn't mean the gain far outweighs the monetary contribution. You will find out next year.
You think we will not be trading with you? Whatever happened to trading with the EU on similar conditions as with australia. Or don't the UK buy goods in australia?
