June First wander.

June is the start of my summer period so i headed down the coast for a wildlife wander and a few photos.

Dozy wassick that i am i left my camera card at home , never the less i plodded on to see what i could find.

First thing noticeable was many more songbirds about ,bit later than normal, its been and odd spring.

My main goal was insects and flowers,the former were absent, with only two moth species being seen, and no butterfly's at all.

However lot more flowers in bloom.

Birds.

Songbirds.

Skylark,
Meadow pipit,
Reedbunting,
Linnet,
Whitethroat
Sedge warbler
Songthrush,
Blackbird.

Seabirds.

Gannet,
Cormorant,
Sandwich tern,
Common tern,
Herring gull,
Black headed gull,

Waders.

Only 2 species of wader seen, both early return failed breeders.

Oystercatchers,
Lapwing.

Birds general

Canada geese,
Mallard,
Coot,
Moorhen
Carrion crow,
Starling,
Wood pigeon,
Pied wagtail
Magpie,
Swallow.

Flowers.
Sea campion,
Red Campion,
Silver weed,
Eyebright,
Mignonette,
Poppy,
Red Clover,
Various buttercup,
Kidney vetch.

Only mammal
Grey seal.

Think its going to be a few more weeks for things to liven up.






A Frog or Toad croaked from deep within the ditch, no damselflies or orchids about.

Sounds like a very good outing today Nom, that's quite a list of sightings there.

What a shame you left your camera card at home

I have just been watching the resident Magpie from the garden feeding station and you can't fault them for always looking so smart.

Such an attractive bird. Very much down on the species this year though as most new comers have taken down any trees they may have had in their gardens.

Glad you got out today Nom, looks like you spotted a lot too.
That Magpie's a striking looking bird isn't he - looks like he's posing just for you.

That magpie looks evil tho

There are so many magpies making noises round here lately - if I had a gun.....
