Re: Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

The media hate Cummings, among other things he interfered with the lobby briefings and they have been gunning for him. Along with the spiteful left who also hate him they have perceived a possible chink in his armour and are doing their best to plunge in the dagger

No one knows the full story but there have been comparisons made by the press with the actions of Cummings and the Scottish woman who went off to her holiday home a couple of times and the Professor who saw his lover which to me are not the same as sick parents seeking to take a small child to a place where they could receive support.

Re: Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

Downing Street released a statement on Saturday, giving more detail.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52784290

It said: "Owing to his wife being infected with suspected coronavirus and the high likelihood that he would himself become unwell, it was essential for Dominic Cummings to ensure his young child could be properly cared for.

"His sister and nieces had volunteered to help so he went to a house near to but separate from his extended family in case their help was needed.

"His sister shopped for the family and left everything outside."
There a few inconsistencies with that statement:

On 30 March, Downing Street confirmed the top adviser was self-isolating at home after developing symptoms. Next day, 31st March, Cummings drove North.

He went to a house near to the family - no mention of leaving the child to be looked after with the sister or nieces.

"His sister shopped for the family and left everything outside." - "the family" implies inclusion of the child.

But, allegedly, Cummimgs was bedridden for 10 days and his wife wasn't much better, so who was looking after the child (who may have been infectious).

It seems that the Tories are, indeed, "brass-necking" it out and lying through their teeth ...... while accusing the Durham police of lying ......

You are, of course, entitled to think that - so does Cummings .....

Its ok for militant lefties to assemble in Hyde Park and have a protest though and the police and the public to ignore government advice by partying on Westminster Bridge each Thursday for the NHS. Yeah thats fine ....

How does having a pop at DC for breaking his own rules make the other stuff alright?

A necessity? People weren't even allowed to visit dying partners and parents in hospital. They weren't able to have proper funerals or anything when this incident happened.

The flat earther anti-vax covid-deniers span a wide range of the political spectrum. Usually their own half baked conspiracy-based philosophies.

The relevant point is that they aren't advisers to the PM.

There are times when I despair, over 40.000 people have died in this country alone due to the pandemic, the economy is in ruins, 1000's will lose their jobs and some their homes and some people have nothing better to do than look for unimportant things to nitpick over.

Well whether he's in the wrong or not ... I imagine the government would rather been winging back the flak over this rather than the diabolical mess they're making of handling Corona.

The other day someone said to me (someone usually totally uninterested in politics) ... that when it's over and they look back they'd remember Corona due to the remarkable absence of anyone with any authority seen at the helm....

.. ' the PM that wasn't there ... who contracted the virus early on and then faded away and vanished, first due to ill health and recovery, but later due to cooing over changing nappies, sorting out a divorce and arranging his next marriage to his 'bit on the side'.
I'm sure Boris will be well remembered for the Covid fiasco, not that anyone else would have done any better or handled it any differently.

That's been the problem all along hasn't it.
A certain ambiguity over just how strict the lockdown rules are meant to be. Not helped by over zealous coppers.

I think people are entitled to feel a aggrieved or a little put out that DC was allowed to decide for himself how flexible the interpretation of the rules could be.
