I wish it were that easy here Julie. Unfortunately there's not enough room around any of the downpipes. I'm going to look for the less obstructive butts. OH doesn't do DIY so I have to either get someone in or find the simplest Water butts for dummies video. The one I've watched didn't make it look easy.

my neighbours gutter leaks and |I put buckets there to fill the buckets and that will do for now or buckets near your beds and use them when full. When do you stop cutting your grass?

here's nothing too difficult about fitting a water butt, but you do need a few basic tools. here is quite a good video from B&Q although some differ slightly. You can get a full sized butt or a slimline spacesaver. Buy the fitting kit a the same time and buy the stand that goes with it (this lifts it off the ground so that you can get your watering can under the tap). They can sometimes leak a bit from around the tap fitting, so I added a squirt of mastic behind mine and it has been fine.
