Re: The Crown returns (Netflicks)

Any comments on the new series?

It took me few episodes to get back into it and I'm still not convinced that Coleman was the right choice for the part. She looks permanently miserable and her slight lisp doesn't help. I also think that Bonham Carter is mis-cast as Margaret - Vanessa Kirby was brilliant. Some of the others have been good, Menzies for instance and I think Josh O'Connor (The Durrels)will turn out to be excellent in the role of Charlie.

The Aberfan episode was very moving and showed up the Queen very u favourably -something she regretted very much .
It showed Antony Armstrong Jones as the only royal who had any sense of feeling .
He went to Aberfan and stayed there for sometime .

Yes, I agree, that episode was very well done and very moving. I don't remember the actual event as I was too young but it gave a good impression of how terrible it was.

The Queen's response (allegedly) was 'We visit churches, not disasters.'

I didn't like the casting LD. The storyline was good as was the directing but Coleman talks too fast as does Bonham Carter. The Queen speaks slowly and does not show the eye-rolling emotion displayed by Coleman. Margaret may have been a party animal but she had a certain stiff regal quality that is lacked by Helena. So too much emotion shown by all. Charles was the real let down. They made him look like a real clown. Some people may like that but in real life he is far more self possessed and confident than the Crown version.

I have to pretty much agree with all of that. It appears that most agree that the casting is terrible. i have also heard that the cast will change again for the next series.
