Hi

We have already set our Tariff Schedules.

Apart from completed vehicles, they are remarkably low.

Of course they will talk to us about a Trade Deal, one which suits them.

UK exports account for 2.3% of the EU 27 GDP.

Yes, we run a massive deficit in goods but a surplus in Services.

We will still have to import goods until such time as we manufacture more here.

As much of our Industry is Foreign Owned we will be reliant on Foreign Owners to increase production here.
My pointn was that the goods we replace the eu goods with will be
cheaper as we wont be charged the eu tarriff Swimmy, therefore
our balance of trade will improve considerably!
I agree with most of your other ststements!

EU goods tend to be more expensive anyway because there is no tarrifs in the block. What tends to happen is EU companies can charge slightly more for their goods so they are still cheaper than "tariffed" goods but they make slightly more profit.

This is going to be a huge problem for the EU when we leave because if we reduce our tarrifs to zero (rumour is 85% of goods entering the UK will be tarrif free) and therefore the rest of the world isn't subject to the common external tarrif anymore, then the EU will have to lower the price of their products to compete = less tax revenues, less profit, risk to jobs for the 27 etc

Hi

I think you misunderstand WTO Rules.

They are based around Most Favoured Nation Status.

At the moment what we import from the EU is Tariff Free, it is just imports from outside the EU which are subject to Tariffs.

Some imports will be cheaper, because we have set our own tariffs.

We have published them.

Under the temporary tariff, 88% of total imports to the UK by value would be eligible for tariff free access.

These tariffs will also apply to EU Imports, so we will not be replacing them all by a long chalk.

It is important to understand that nothing at all will happen until the end of the Transition Period, which is the end of next year.

Hi

It is not a huge problem at all for the EU.

A problem, but not a huge one.

Transportation costs alone mean that we will still be importing most of our fresh produce from the EU.

We will still be importing HGVs and spares for them for many years, we do not manufacture our own and American ones are far too big for our roads.

There are many very valid reasons for leaving, money is not one of them.

We are already starting to produce more fruit and veg here. Go to you local supermarket and look at the country of origin on the packaging - you will see a lot more union flags than a few years ago.
