car bonnet won't close

my car's a fiesta...there's a catch on the inside that releases the catch on the hood, I was filling the reservoir with water ,usually I just need to drop the hood and the catch springs back in, but it wont, I've tried wd40 and some other stuff that gets rid of rust ,but it just wont close, it's not open full, it has dropped down but the catch got a yellow arrow on it is still sticking out....any Ideas

Drop it down again and then lean on it.

Hi Paula I had a similar problem with my Fiesta, I pulled the bonnet down to within an inch of closure a few times pushing the little arm in, finally I lowered the bonnet down so far and let it go quickly and it closed.

Maybe it is the spring that has gone. When you pull it out does it spring back again?

Re: car bonnet won't close

Is the release catch inside the car fully back in position, sometimes they dont go back fully if the cable to the front of the car is sticking. If it is sticking out then try pushing the release catch back into position and then try the bonnet again.

Re: car bonnet won't close

Be careful that the safety catch is holding it down otherwise your bonnet might rise up when you drive with the air getting underneath.
