Re: Debenhams

Have never been a Debenham's fan - but it is sad to see business's going to the wall.

Re: Debenhams

Debenhams was one of those shops that I had a look around in but very rarely bought anything, always seemed overpriced to me.

And that was their big problem.

Greedy councils and shopping centre owners policies of making people pay handsomely for the assumed privilege of visiting a physical shop isn't helping physical shops either.

Re: Debenhams

When I lived in the Midlands, Debenhams was my go to shop for clothing. The quality of the clothes was good, they lasted. Then they decided to do what a lot of clothing stores did which was to reduced the quality of the material used in their clothing ranges but keep the same prices. This had an immediate impact and regulars stopped shopping there. I know I did. M&S got caught out for doing the same. Changing the quality of the material used in a lot of their clothing to that of a lesser quality material.

Yes Debenhams sold a lot more than clothing but the rest of the stuff they sold was not good enough to keep them afloat.

Re: Debenhams

I used to love Debenhams before they changed their image. All the make up and perfume counters and lovely homeware. Used to be comforting going in there. But when they changed they made it more flashy and tacky.
