It's quite important though that when you go to hospital they have your notes and not someone else's. I guess it's nice if there is someone to make sure there are enough beds, that someone has ordered the medicine, made sure the bed sheets are clean, that the equipment is in working order, that the ward has been cleaned, that the nurses and doctors are paid, that the lights work, that the toilets have paper in them (and that it has been ordered). That the phones and computers work and that there is help if they don't. Today my mum needed a wheelchair. I was pretty glad that they had reception staff who could direct me to one. I would hope that would not be left to the doctors and nurses to sort out.
I'm afraid you misunderstand my definition of 'administrator'.
Nothing to do with maintenance people, porters, etc. I refer to faceless well-paid executives behind desks shuffling papers and, as we all know, papers breed more papers.

Prisoners seem to get priority treatment too!

No, I suppose it's us responsible, tax-paying, law-abiding members of the public who are the real problem.

I do know they will send an ambulance if they believe it's that urgent though.

Although by all accounts you'll have to be patient when trying to get through!

Therefore they are taking away from legitimate British people who also require treatment .
Ah! We could do that, couldn't we? Fly over to America for lengthy and expensive treatment...

Oh yes, we'd have to pay wouldn't we?

I didn't 'misunderstand. I was clarifying a misconception about the term.

The vast majority of medical notes are paper files. The vast majority of well paid execs in the public and private sector do not see paper at all. They attend meetings, swan around and lead teams. (Or mislead them. In some cases).

Incompetent management is present in every business in this country. See the history of the British steel industry for reference. Toxic cultures can become embedded if organisations are left to their own devices.

But people employed to deal with administration of real paper are the glue holding the system together. When i go to the GP and see how hard the staff work, how much pressure they have to deal with often for little pay then i am really grateful for their contribution.

It makes no difference how much tax you pay if you live an unhealthy lifestyle. But the real problem is that we are all living longer so there are more of us getting older and sicker and in need of healthcare.

I have to smile to myself sometimes Annie, because when the the government and the NHS complain about what it costs to care for the old and infirm. It seeems a bit ironic to me, because it is the scientists in their laboratories who develop the drugs to keep us alive so much longer in the first place - and then complain because there are so many oldies costing a fortune in pensions and care now!
They don't let us die young any more, so who's fault is that?

Re: My Local NHS

I don,t think 'Living Longer' is a problem to those of us who have lived longer than we should have but a blessing. I am one of those that is 'living longer' and am thankful to these scientists who developed the drugs that will prolong my life.
"The real problem is that we are all living longer"
No problem to this old duffer!
