Speeding at 115mph

The police clocked an Audi driver speeding along at 115mpg in extreme weather

I hope this driver is banned from driving and not just points on his license. He is an obvious danger on our roads, it doesn't bear thinking about had he crashed into someone at that speed.

What an idiot.

That stretch of the M62 (Windy Hill) is notorious for accidents and crashes. Every time there is a news bulletin on a motorway hold-up, you can almost guarantee it's because of an accident between Exit 22 and Exit 25.

Re: Speeding at 115mph

A few years ago a car was clocked at 147 MPH on an A road up here. It turned out to be an unmarked police car driven by a non traffic officer who claimed he was training. He was granted an exemption and not prosecuted.

Over a 3 year period 300 police officers were reported for speeding some in non emergency situations, 2 were prosecuted.

Hi

Just home after doing the Liverpool Airport run.

It was hammering down, visibility was very bad dues to spray and yet some were still tailgating at high speed in the outside lane of the M56.

Mad ness.

I agree.

Those of us who have a dashcam should, like me, also invest in another to face the rear.

Tailgating is dangerous, and a rear facing dashcam would provide all the evidence needed in case of a contentious claim by the tailgating party.

Of course, that's assuming you survive the collision!

As well as being dangerous, tailgating is also ridiculously stupid. Does it get you there any quicker? Perhaps you think you can scare the driver in front into pulling in and letting you pass. Then there will be the next one, and the next...
all of whom you are trying to kill.

I agree, Queenie.
Even if the weather wasn't bad, he is still a selfish idiot.

And what about that car they are trying to make now that will do 300 mph!! What is the point?
Where could you ever use it?

I also agree about tail-gaters.
I had a huge lorry this very afternoon hanging on my back bumper.
I would probably have been killed if I had needed to break quickly.
These reckless, selfish drivers my blood boil.

There is an argument in favour of HGV's tailgating each other in terms of fuel efficiency and more to the point aerodynamic safety. But there is no excuse nor reason for an HGV to tailgate a saloon car, which puts both drivers on edge and is more likely to lead to a reckless defensive/aggressive act.

Quite.

It unnerved me.
These lorries are so huge and need more stopping distance than a small car.

Re: Speeding at 115mph

What I have done in the past is to very gently slow down. Just decelerate and not apply brakes: brake lights might aggravate an arrogant tailgater!

This achieves two things.
- Any collision will be reduced in effect, the slower the speed.
- The tailgater will eventually give up and will either see sense and back off, or will overtake when he thinks he can.

I also get a sense of satisfaction in making him slow down!

I'll have to remember that, JBR.
