California & Las Vegas for the over 50's

Next year Mrs. Floyd and myself may be going to the USA's west coast taking in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and The Grand Canyon on a trip of a lifetime. We have only ever been on European package holidays, aside from some of my the postings I had whilst in the RAF previously to my marriage.

I have looked into this sort of holiday briefly over the past few days. We won't want to drive anywhere and if possible have the "door to door" option of a fully escorted vacation, which sounds safer as we would feel more secure rather than find our own way around.

Cost may not be too much of a factor but although we don't want to pay the earth, we do want a trouble-free, comfortable vacation.

Has anyone had any personal experience of a similar holiday to the States? Please don't post a load of links unless you can recommend a specific company.

Thanks all

Titan do a very good door-to-door service, and I'm pretty sure they do the sort of USA holiday you want.

I haven't been to the USA with them, but have been on some of their European hols, and I can recommend them as a company.

This one might fill the bill for you, but there are others.

You have to take in the fact the distances you are traveling and the time it takes even with air flights.

By the way San Fran is a sh*t hole they spend over a Million$ cleaning their streets of Shi* over their Homeless.

Just go to Vegas and then get a Helicopter to the Grand Canyon.

we went with Virgin holidays

Stayed in SF at Fishermans wharf and saw Alcatraz best to pre book before you leave UK.

It gets crowded so get their early

A must is Yosemite national park and Muir woods for the red wood trees
Mir woods Sorry about video quality

Yosemite waterfall

then there is the cable car into SF which is an experience in itself

only houses left standing after the 1920's earthquake. now a tourist attraction

This is the itinerary for the holiday above. The numbers in circles are the number of nights in each place.

We have done the trip with Titan and to be honest, I don't think it warranted the extra money. They were quite a bit more expensive than other companies. Yes, you do get a mini bus collect you from your house but then you have to be driven around collecting other people so better to get a cab imo.

Their coaches in America were fine but not the most luxurious I have travelled in. They gave the excuse that because we were going to do the Big Sur drive, we needed a smaller coach. As it happens, there had been a landslide anyway so we didn't get to do it.

Just my opinion of course.

Yes did this last year with Travelsphere.
Stayed in LA and went to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica etc
Next Las Vegas with Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam etc
Finally Palm Springs for three nights.
All excellent hotels, well organised and a lot cheaper than Titan.
There were long distances covered but plenty of stops.

Re: California & Las Vegas for the over 50's

We're doing something similar in a few weeks!
A friend put us onto the agency JUST AMERICA and they've been utterly fantastic.
We told them our plan, where we wanted to go and how long we had, any specific trips we wanted to include (railway journey, Cascades, from Seattle to Vancouver, for example) and he sorted it all out for us, turned a couple of ideas upside down, altered the itinerary here and there to make it more sensible and take account of snow etc... we've been so impressed.
Booked flights, accommodation, visas sorted etc.
We've booked some accommodation ourselves, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and he's done hotels here and there.
Mike Easton deserves an Oscar!!
