Life on Earth

Just read a small write-up in my paper which says scientists at Rice University in Texas have simulated the planetary crash they believe caused life on Earth.

They also believe it was a crash 4.4 billion years ago, that formed the moon.

The 'giant impact hypothesis' says we smashed into a Mars-sized planet which deposited life-essential elements on earth.

That includes most of the nitrogen and carbon found in living things, including humans today.

Debris from the crash formed the moon, according to lab simulations.
They are saying this was "consistent with all the geo-chemical evidence."

We sometimes hear warnings that meteors are coming closer to Earth, and I can't help but wonder if that is what will finish us again one day.

Re: Life on Earth

Yet other studies prove the moon never came from this earth , others claim the earths gravity has never been strong enough to ‘grab’ a passing moon either so ???
In old writings from past civilisations there was no talk of the moon either , as if it hasn’t always been here ?
When the old Apollo mission landed on the moon the seismograph rang like a bell for 20 minutes as if the moon is hollow ... very strange thing our moon

Re: Life on Earth

I think these scientist can say anything they like and we can't question it.
How can we know what happened all that time ago?
Perhaps humans will destroy the Earth before the next big meteor hits (which could be mercifully quicker).

The world is such an enigma, it's fascinating and always good hearing different theories

No Moon? What about ocean tides?

https://www.popsci.com/what-would-ha...ly-disappeared

Because the moon is so close to us, the pull of its gravity impacts our planet. That force is strong enough to pull our oceans back and forth, what we call “the tides.” Without the moon, tides would rise and fall at a much slower rate, about one third of their current fluctuation. The tides wouldn’t completely stop moving as the sun also has some gravitational pull on the oceans, too, but not nearly as much as the moon.

A two-thirds reduction in tides would drastically alter coastal ecosystems, potentially destroying many of them and disrupting the flow of energy, water, minerals, and other resources. Entire ecosystems exist in the ocean areas between high and low tides. In these spaces, many species of crabs, snails, barnacles, mussels, sea stars, kelp, and algae rely on the daily coming and going of the tide for survival. These ecosystems in turn feed migrating and local birds as well as land mammals like bears, raccoons, and deer.

Tidal movements also help drive ocean currents, which in turn direct global weather patterns, as the currents distribute warm water and precipitation across the globe. Without them, regional temperatures would be much more extreme; as would major weather events.
So, could civilisations thrive, or even begin, without the Moon .....
