My Dad and me used to play this. He could play the banjo-mandolin and violin and I was fairish on the clarinet. He strung up one of my guitars the same tuning and the banjo-mandolin and did a fair attempt at the chords. We never sounded as good as Acker Bilk and his band though.
This is an interesting little curio.
In 1980 a French recording artist went into the woods with a tape recorder and simply taped the noises of the birds he heard. Adding a very mellow keyboard plus some strings, this song was released and became a monster hit around Europe, hitting No.4 for two weeks in the UK. It's quite beautiful actually. I always remember the Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles' description of the 'band' as "France, feathered vocal group".
