What was the first record you bought?

Little Eva – Loco-motion (1962)

This was the first record I ever bought – for my sister for her birthday!

It's quite surprising how these names come to mind isn't it!

Russ Conway, another name I recall. He had part of his right ring finger missing, that always made me wonder just how he managed to play?

Heartbreak Hotel (1959), must be by Elvis I am guessing, although a lot of singers recorded that one.

Re: What was the first record you bought?

My first album was Deep Purple in Rock. I later sold it and, many years later, bought it again as I missed it.
I don't buy singles that often, probably no more than three or four in my life. The first was Radar Love by Golden Earring and it still sounds excellent. I was the first in Colchester to buy it as the record shop had to unpack the box to get a copy out for me.

Re: What was the first record you bought?

It was a "Music for Pleasure" LP by The Kinks but unlike many MfP LPs it was actually The Kinks. Cost 7/6 and I've still got it.

A whole 37.5 pence, sounds very little by today's value, I wonder what it's worth nowadays?

I think it was 6/9.
We didn't have a record player but a friend did.
The girls loved Cliff but us chaps thought Hank Marvin was the rock god.
