This is interesting, because here in Scotland, we do have our lavatories in the bathroom, its not a separate room of its own like in England. So I have to confess to saying bathroom if I'm going to the loo, sorry!

I wouldn't say it annoys me, but it makes me laugh inside when I hear people refer to 'lavatories'. The original meaning of 'lavatory' is a place to wash, as in ancient abbeys: 'lavatorium'. I believe their word for the place where you went to poo was the 'necessarium'.

I'd never dream of washing my hands and face in the toilet bowl anyway!

I live in England and can assure you almost all lavatories are in bathrooms!

I've never seent that advert before, LD, but I agree about her voice.
