yep, mine too is set to regularly defrag so I don't have to think about it

It must be a default in Windows now because I don't remember setting it myself. The only problem is that you have to remember to leave the computer on overnight on occasional Tuesdays (as I said mine is sometimes left on for a week(s) at a time but many don't)

I wonder how much running a computer a lot, puts on our electric bills? Any idea anyone?

You can work it out; my peak electricity costs 24c/Kwh (12p) so at about 250 watts the computer costs about 6c an hour or $1.44 a day or $130 a quarter (£65) if it is on 24 hours a day for that total period. That's a very rough figure (I turn off the screen at night). As my total electricity bill for a quarter is about $214 (including discounts) I suspect it is far too high but then my computer is probably only on for 24 hours for perhaps two or three days a week and when in power saving mode uses a lot less power.

A laptop would use less and compared to a fridge or freezer is peanuts.

I hope my maths is right
