Re: Mouldy Cheese!

LOL, I'm afraid my Cheddar Cheese will have to sweat ST.
WHMO insists on his extra mature cheddar cheese Strength number 5 comes from Iceland of all places!! He loves his cheese to have a real bite to it so as far as he is concerned it really is a champion cheese in his eyes. I have to buy at least a block a week. (no chance of mould forming on cheese with him!)

I would never buy cheese wrapped like that, Bruce. Do you not have proper Cheesemongers in Australia? Or even a deli counter selling fresh cheese?

Yep, but I like this cheese.

That's what it is all about, I suppose! Wouldn't do for us all to like the same - there wouldn't be enough to go round. What a terrifying thought!

Re: Mouldy Cheese!

I would eat mouldy cheese once the mouldy bits are scraped off. They say don't eat mouldy foods because it may cause cancer etc, but seriously? It's the same as having a mouldy carrot or mature potato. You peel away the old bits and it's fine inside.

I don't stick cling film on cheese but was not aware of the problems with plastic. I usually put an open supermarket packet into one of those ziplock bags in the fridge and it stays fresh for ages.

I never buy deli counter produce because I suspect a) that it's not sufficiently refrigerated, b) the human contact spreads germs, c) flies end up in there without us realising. Just my hygiene fussiness but I'm super careful about food handling and even rinse meat and fish before cooking (despite the guidance). I don't even like using tea towels. Probably all wrong but it works well because we don't end up with food poisoning.

Re: Mouldy Cheese!

I once read it's ok to eat cheese once you’ve cut the mould off. I usually grate it and freeze it to use in Lasagne, quiches etc.
