Would you take in an economic migrant?

Would you be prepared to take in an economic migrant into you home?

No definately not, helped some time ago a friend whose husband had died and lost her home. Never any thanks and cost us a fortune when we put her up until she found somewhere else to live

No I feel sorry for people who don't have life as good as us, but it isn't my responsibility, or this country's, to look after them.

Exactly how I feel too, Twink. I would much prefer to help those in need among my own countrymen.

We should no longer be admitting those who have no home/job to come to.

Re: Would you take in an economic migrant?

In 1995 We had a young Jewish refugee from Moldova stay with us.

He had got been granted an Israeli pasport but because it hadnt been issued he became a stateless person and was told if picked up he would be deported.

His few days turned into 4 months but we never had any trouble from him ..He helped OH with building work around the house in return for his bed and board.

Eventually he left but we did get a lovely letter and photo thanking us for our help.

No I wouldn't.

I'm looking forward to seeing replies from far left. Maybe they won't bother to post?

There was a small refugee center near our village and OH did car repairs for some of the people who lived there because they didnt have the money to pay main garages.

Vladimir spoke good English and so he and OH got chatting Vladimir often bought people along to OH when they needed help. It helped us finance some of our rebuilding work.

When he needed help it seemed logical to help him.

He is now married and eventually he and his wife settled in Germany. We got a very excited phone call when his daughter was born..
