Got to have a rant..

Aghhhh...... possibly for the first time in history, our obscure little Scottish village got a mention on the Radio 2 travel news - and they got the name wrong!!!! I am outraged.

My gran used to get incandescent with rage when her birth town was mispronounced Herstmonceux

Very funny both of you.
I don't often get annoyed but used to when watching any programme
when any Dutch name was mentioned. Having lived in Holland for over
a year was really upset they didn't pronounce the Dutch words at all.

Happens up here all the time, annoying but im sure ive mispronouced plenty myself over the years. Four years of holidaying in Wales was challenging.

There nearly was going to be 24 letters in or alphabet instead of the 26.

I heard there was some years ago an attempt to blow up Band Q

Whether they got the name wrong or mispronounced it, it doesn't contain an 'L'. It's Byth - not - Blyth - so there!

There are plenty of villages round here whose names are not pronounced as they are written eg. Crovie is Crivie and Alford is Afford. Probably the best is Fanzean - pronounced 'Fingin'. Their local am-dram group once put on a show called 'Fingin in the Rain'!

You should try living in Hungary where most name places are beyond me like ..... Hajduszoboszlo.... which I've been to but can't tell anyone because I haven't a clue how to pronounce it! Ah well, that's what happens when you have 44 letters in the alphabet!
