Re: Right place right time

I can only think of once in my life when I was in the right place at the right time when one of my granddaughters was surrounded in the street by about four bullying girls from her school, (she was about 14 then and biased as I always am, a very pretty young girl. Some of the bullies were, well let's just say, rather ugly on the outside as well as the inside).

Anyway, one look at her face as I walked towards her showed me she was in for a battering, so I walked straight into the circle, turned to one of the girls and said," How's your mum?" (didn't know her mum at all), "I see her most weeks, tell her Clare's Nan (my granddaughter in the circle) sends her best wishes".

It worked anyway, because she smiled and said "I will", and with that I grabbed Clare's hand and said "Come on, dawdler, standing here chatting with your mates instead of helping your mum with dinner", I said "Bye girls", and we walked away quickly.

She told me on the way home that she was able to take care of herself if with her own friends, but she was late leaving school that day and got cornered by that lot who had been on the corner chatting.

So guess I was in the right place at the right time.

Quick thinking on your part, SG. It could have turned out wrong, but you handled it beautifully.

The contractions were coming fast when SIL arrived home so said to get her to hospital asap. He left the room, after a while I went to find him and he was in the bathroom being sick! He panicked. Told him he had to look after his daughter while my husband drove us to the maternity hospital.... we just made it in time. I took over the role of her birthing partner and was there for the birth. I feel blessed that this had happened, it was the most wonderful experience in the world. I was even allowed to hold my new grandson before my daughter ..... one very happy and emotional Nanna!
I wasn't there but my middle son and his wife had their second child in their garage while they waited for the ambulance. They were in the garage getting in the car to go to the hospital but the little bastard decided to come there and then.

From my son's story the birth involved lots of phone calls and mess on the garage floor.

My last child was a near miss too - I live a 20 minute drive from the hospital and had to drive like a maniac to get there. I drove straight into the ambulance bay and a nurse got a wheel chair, by the time I had parked the car and got to the maternity suite the head was already out.

As I arrived the midwife said to me, "You better watch this because you will be delivering the next one".

I used to live in a street where if I stood at the right place and at the right time,a bus would stop for me.It happened lots of times too.
