Re: Coins

No idea, but what a very interesting life story the 1744 one could tell and what a book it could make if it did tell.

Re: Coins

Hi Marmaduke. You are correct about the first 2 coins.

The 3rd coin looks pretty strongly like a pirate/shipwreck treasure coin. Tricky to pin down exactly from your photo but you'll be able to do your own comparisons on this website:

http://www.ancientresource.com/lots/...ate-coins.html

This one looks like a pretty good match:

From the wreck of the Nuestra Senora de las Maravillas, sunk off Grand Bahama Island in 1656

And perhaps this one:

From the same wreck

The main identifying feature is the cross with castles in the quadrant and the double wavy edging lines.

If so it's probably worth a few bob !

I’d forgot I had them but came across them looking for things today and thought someone in here may know before I start googling

Re: Coins

I am fascinated.
I found some Roman coins when I lived in Dover.
I had to give them to a museum. NATIONAL TREASURES!!!!

How uncanny it is you said this, Davey.
I was only this afternoon sat at a bus stop looking at my £2 coin as my bus fare. It was from the year 2000 and I was wondering how fantastic it would be if it had been fitted with a miniature tracking device since leaving the Royal Mint. They would have been able to follow the coin over its 18-year history. Imagine how fascinating that would be to watch.
