Yes things have changed for the worse concerning rubbish since I was a boy Swimmy.
Milk came in glass bottles and the milkman took them away to refill, same with pop and beer bottles.
All meats, sausages and ham came from the butchers or dairy and were wrapped in greaseproof paper, as was the butter. Newspapers were used to start the coal fire in the mornings.
Milk kept cool on a concrete slab in the pantry, no fridges or freezers so most food was bought fresh and eaten within a day or two, very little or no packaging. Washing machines lasted twenty years at least, and clothes shopping was rare, just work clothes and Sunday best. Furniture lasted years and was handed down. And no plastic!
