Reminds me of my days racing my fixed wheel, no brakes bike around Herne Hill Velodrome back in the day. The only protection for my huge brain was a woven, padded helmet made of leather. No protection at all as i found out to my cost on a few occasions.

Yes, my dad used to complain about his 'tin hat'.

He'd say how "the Americans have helmets that fit, even the Germans had helmets that fit, but we have lids that wobble about on the top of our heads".
