I was minus eighteen Ben but VE day is all about celebrating people like your good self and the sacrifices you made for people like me.

Thank You,

Re: VE Day

I was 5 but even at that young age I have memories of family sadness when my Dad’s brother was killed.

Having not been outside the garden gate for 8 weeks, I haven’t seen any shops or houses with bunting and suchlike.

I do wonder how many people these days will use the day as an excuse for an outdoor party/barbecue with no thought at all for the brave lads and lassies of years ago

I was a 14 year old schoolboy living in Wimbledon. We had a day off school on V E Day.

Re: VE Day

VE Day was a milestone, in my life, as many of my family had been out there, doing the fighting, and it was great to know that the bombing was to stop and the fathers & mothers, uncles & aunts, all of those who gave so much, would now be able to resume a more normal life.

For me, there seem to be many parallels with what is going on, right now, as so many people, from different backgrounds, are there making huge sacrifices to get us through it.

In my view, you have to have these "memory events" to help with ensuring that we are mentally ready in case it all happens again.

Trouble is, many people in high places think it should all be forgotten - and they then go on to fail to require that adequate procedures are in place to get us through any repeats.

So, we have no protective clothing, for our NHS staff, and no tested procedures to follow.

You get what you plan for. based on previous experience...!

9 Years old, never seen a banana, or a TV!

Telephones were in red boxes at the roadside.

Radio usually needed big accumulator batteries.

Everything rationed.

You youngsters don't know you're born!

You must be 1 year older than me Ted. I think I was 10 years old before saw my first banana. I remember queues in the street when the first bananas arrived Also the accumulators that you had to get someone to recharge them.

Nothing happening here, I am not only in self-isolation but also in hiding since I cut my hair off with the dog scissors
