Another tower block fire!!

Another 48 storey residential tower block in the UAE had a near
squeak last night when the external composite cladding ignited
for unknown reasons!
The occupants were evacuated early and successfully anr the blaze
was extinguished after about 3hrs using fire engines and drones!
This is the latest of several cladding fires in the region recently!
Surely it is time that this material was outlawed from use as
cladding?
It could serve better if marketed as firelighters!!

It was described as aluminium composit Todgy
Grenfell was described as aluminium composite as well?
And judging by the flammability they are exactly the same?
If l were you l would move my money to another investment!!

"Aluminium composite" is a wide church. At one end it's the material used in even load bearing parts of an airframe, at the other it's used as a heat dissipating material.

The right material when used within design limits and installed correctly is fine. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it.

Report and video:

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world...est-news-video
A HUGE fire engulfed a skyscraper in Sharjah, one of the largest cities in the United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday night.

Videos on social media purportedly of the fire showed burning debris falling from a tower engulfed in flames, which local media said was the 48-storey Abbco Tower. Seven people were reportedly injured from the fire. Dozens of firefighters surrounded the building to put out the blaze.

So was it fake news Omah?
The video wasnt very good, but then you dont expect it to be if
its taken from a smartphone?
But it proves the point that polystyrene is not the best material to
use for cladding despite what Todgy says!
I am amazed that the company marketing it is still in business?

I may have missed it but where is it indicated that polystyrene was incorporated as part of the cladding?

Sorry Todger, l got the plastic wrong, the aluminium cladding
uses polyethylene or polyurethane for the filler and both have a
fire rating of HIGHLY FLAMMABLE!
Only a fool or a maniac would use such a thing to cover his
house in??

But where was it stated that the composite used ANY plastic in its construction? I may have missed it but I've not seen it mentioned.

You'll get no argument from me that a flammable material should not be used as a part of a composite cladding for a building used for human occupation and in this case it probably was but when used in line within design constraints limits and installed correctly it's fine.

It was not mentioned in that particular article Todgy!
But if you look at the description of aluminium composite cladding
you then come up with its constituents
And your statement that flammable material should NOT be used
as cladding for habitable dwellings is completely at odds with
the rest of your argument??
I rest my case!!
