Foreign Aid department scrapped.

Boris Johnson has announced the scrapping of the Foreign Aid department and had moved into the auspices of Foreign and Commonwealth dept.

Not before time. Too much has been wasted on aid to some countries mired in corruption with little benefit to the populations of those countries. That money is much more needed to sort out our own infrastructure and the NHS.

I think the intention is to eventually reduce the 0.7 percent of national income.

Trouble is it was 0.7 of GDP which is not the national income.

In any case getting free from that stupid foreign foreign giveaway will need to be done as a series of steps or the professional whingers would have a fit of the vapours and it would be presented as further proof of the supposed racism in the UK.

Actually no. The GDP in the case of a nation heavily biased towards the service sector is horribly distorted in the case of a very high value finance sector.

Our domestic economy is such that it is very badly affected by giving away 0,7% of our GDP. As a quick and dirty estimation and our economy being 80% service sector that 0,7% of GROSS domestic product represents closer to 2,5% of our internal economy.

I undestand we are still giving aid to places like India, yet they can afford to put rockets into space. Is it our aid to them that is financing it
