'Northern Powerhouse'

So instead of building HS2, it now seems Theresa May is about to give everyone living in the 'north' a push bike' - good luck with that one for anyone who wants to commute to London.

Arm Chair cynicism and contemptuous mocking.

Here's the truth....

Yorkshire Post article, Theresa May said the “northern powerhouse” was a “plan to help the great cities and towns of the north pool their strengths and take on the world”.

She added that she would boost the policy with a “proper industrial strategy” to support Yorkshire’s key sectors.
She added that she would boost the policy with a “proper industrial strategy” to support Yorkshire’s key sectors.

“To help us realise the benefits, the government will now develop a proper industrial strategy to back Yorkshire’s strengths, whether it is financial and health technology in Leeds, advanced manufacturing in South Yorkshire, or innovative new textiles in West Yorkshire.”

The prime minister added “industrial strategy” to the title of the new, beefed-up business department when she arrived in Downing Street, in a signal that she could take a more interventionist approach. Greg Clark, the business minister who replaced the free marketeer Sajid Javid, has a keen interest in devolution.

Re: 'Northern Powerhouse'

It is about time someone paid attention to the Northern unemployment problem.

And in particular, Lancashire and Tyneside as well
There is no more work in ‘The Jam Butty Mines.

Most towns have 50% influx of foreigners, many jobless
.Beautiful substantial Red Brick Cotton Mills built to last, were raised to the ground by ‘less than far thinking’ well fed Local Government Officials
They would have made very accommodation or business premises, to compensate for the Chinese Dragons entry into the Cotton trade and supplying cheap cotton imports, so putting thousands out of work and one ‘The Dole’ ‘Love on the Dole’ was quite true.

It should be ‘The Carrot or the Stick’ to force business up the M1

After all, the BBC is now settled in Salford Quays Greater Manchester. It is not’ Grim ‘Up North’.
The Towns are at the foot of the Pennines with acres of Moors and the most spectacular Sunsets in UK
That move means £277million to the economy and employs 2,500 staff .
The cost of living is much cheaper there as as well and the food tastes better too.

Now is the time for Theresa to get things moving.

Re: 'Northern Powerhouse'

Hs2 wants kicking into touch without delay. The massive lie perpetuated by the Cameron et al metropolitan elite, that it was designed to transport people faster from London to Birmingham and from London to Manchester should be seen for what it was, a huge lie.

The real reason was to placate us thick northerners and to deceive then into thinking that they mattered, but the only employment that Hs2 would give to the north would be a few thousand jobs whilst it was being built, and thereafter it would just be used to ship more and more resources to the capital, making the north even more insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

I believe that this country can be capable of achieving great things after Brexit and under the new leadership, and the scrapping of this hugely expensive white elephant whilst pledging the fifty billion to major infrastructure projects in the north instead would be a significant indicator that things really are going to change for the better.

Sorry Nom but that sentence was meant to be ironic, and I was working on the assumption that the north started at Watford in the eyes of the elite...

No bother Barry,i can assure all that all up here saw through the HS2 farce and Northern Powerhouse.

Agree it should be scrapped and the money put to better use. Sadly most politicians cant see beyond London these days, and Labour have lost their heartlands in many areas of the country. Its why Farage started to get support as people felt he was speaking too them, not down to them.

Corbyn is a berk, May is deceitful, and Fallon is non existent, would be nice to feel there was someone to vote for that had the country as a whole in mind.

I feel that ive made my last vote.
