Yes, I think Barry's post observation was said in context of what was offered by our southern-based government. I'm sure Barry wouldn't put himself into the 'thick Northerner' bracket himself.

Same with myself, and I live in "City of Culture 2017" Hull. Place is like a bombsite right now.

Thought Joey Boy"s post was about the Northern Boys who used to dance in the clubs in the 70"s 80"s.Loved the posts and clips about them.

I was working in Glasgow when they were awarded the City of Culture, overnight cranes sprouted from everywhere, hopefully it brings the city to the fore to the benefit of the people.

It will I think, Nom, but at a cost.
We have already been told by our delightfully out of touch council that many services will be cut down or cancelled forthwith.
These include specialist facilities for the mentally handicapped and those for special needs children.
Sign of the times that a council can 'afford' to pay for out-of-town delegates to design our City of Culture plans for us and pay them a fortune wining and dining, but our own facilities have to be scrapped to pay for it all. Of course they would never suggest that is the reason, would they now?

It's about time you poor hard done by moaning Northerners realised that life is not a bowl of cherries down here. The fight is rich against poor not North v South.

If the suggestion here is that HS2 is not going ahead I think they are telling porkies. The planned route requires demolition of various homes in various places and some people up North have already had their homes compulsorarily purchased.
