Impressive brick laying or a trick?

Perhaps one for our resident brickie Tpin to answer. This bricklayer seems to defy gravity where bricks are concerned. Is this really possible?

It looks great doesn't it, but I have never seen it done without form work. If I tried it, it would just be a pile of bricks.

Yep.....its real.

As the bricks are on a tilted curve and the mortar creates a suction to three sides of the individual brick they kinda defy gravity.

They're possibly a bit lighter but not by much.....I forgot to mention one very important ingredient.....rapid set mortar.

Thanks.

Not that I'm thinking of trying it.

Nor am I.
We've done something very similar but with form work which makes it very easy (ish).......looks impressive but a major pita.

Re: Impressive brick laying or a trick?

I'm a bricklayer with 50 years experience and have built vaults, but never without formwork for support. I don't know what the hell mortar he is using but I'm well impressed with the result....
