I do agree with that, and I do think they should have been given more. I think even more will now leave the job, but what I didn't agree with was that the 2.5% for pensioners was too much.
Most oldies are not working, so can't do overtime to make extra, and some have little or no savings to dip down.
I know myself, if I need a tradesman to come, it costs the earth just to call them out, and we don't get off light because we are pensioners.
Same as with the cost of utility bills, gas and electric are crippling each winter.
If some have no other income whatsoever, that 2.5% is very much needed.
If the greedy politicians would forgo some of their pay rise that would be good place to start.
