Are Tory Councils always better than Labour?

Hi

My idiot Local Council.

Extreme Right Wingers.

https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/...-in-two-years/

They also Contracted out our Refuse Collection and Disposal to a French Company

Veolia, who promptly massively increased Commercial Waste Fees.

They also decided to build an Incinerator rather than a new landfill, much cheaper for them.

Thee Council objected, in spite of knowing full well they would be liable for the full costs.

End Result, the Incinerator is built, the Council has wasted £600,000 in legal Fees and because Veiola have the Incinerator they can charge what they want.

Sorry,n don't see any major problems. The fall in value of shopping centre is a national problem and landfill must be severely reduced and best of all stopped.

By and large yes. Our local council (Hawk! Spit!) has been in NOC for some time now. Just as well, when it was Labour controlled, their profligacy on pet projects was scandalous. A grant to set up a communal centre for lesbians? No problem. Money spent on closing roads where Labour councillors live to prevent rat-runs? Certainly, sign this cheque. Countless other vanity projects that were abandoned or failed - bugger the cost, blame the government for withholding vital funds then let the council taxpayer for it all.

What is wrong with land fill?
If done properly it can be grassed over and landscaped .

A "beautifully" crafted piece of Euro-crap made landfill far too expensive to operate, Muddy. Here's the link to the policy document explanation: https://ec.europa.eu/environment/was...fill_index.htm It was far lower cost to build incinerators to burn much of our bin waste but how things changed with the rise of the Ecowarriors and climate changers banging on about CO2 and other noxious emissions. Now it is almost impossible to get planning permission for a waste incinerator unless the proposers have gone backwards through many, many hoops making sure that burn temperatures are consistently high enough to ensure that most, if not all, noxious burn products are completely incinerated, for example.

As for grassing over existing landfills, I completely agree. However, there must be "chimneys" provided to make sure any methane produced within the landfill is allowed to vent to atmosphere and the landfills were suitably lined prior to being filled to prevent any liquid waste from seeping out into the ground water and aquifers.

There's a marked shortage of land remaining to fill! In addition the decomposition of the contents is more than a little problematic because so much that comes out is toxic either chemically or organically or more often both. Then there's the instability of the content making any form of building very expensive and the toxicity of the whole thing makes anything grown on it toxic for many many decades. In addition some materials just don't break down, most plastics for example.

Methane is a shocking greenhouse gas.

Yep, 23 or 24 times more powerful than the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide. That's one of the reasons the vegan-mob are after us to stop eating meat. Fewer animals = fewer farts = less methane in the atmosphere. The problem with that is, the more green stuff we eat, the more we fart so, it's swings and roundabouts.

And also; Because Methane is produced from any decaying material, especially on the sea bed, and because the earth is 71% water, not to mention the forest floors and swamps, any Methane that Man or animals produce is just a drop in the ocean....And did I forget to mention all the Methane trapped in the Arctic and Antarctic Ice from thousands of years of decay, which incidentally is now been released as the ice caps melt due to global warming.....Bit of a catch 22!
