Garden visitor

Pottering in the garden this afternoon and I caught a movement, looked up and saw I had this little chappy watching me..

Usually they scamper away at the sign of any movement.

How nice Mags. We used to see quite a few at our old house but have not seen one here. They are always fun to watch.

They make me smile as they always seem to be twitching.

Re: Garden visitor

The ones that visit my garden are very good at removing the suet balls, that I put out for the tits. They are only about 8 feet from my study window and they amaze me with their methods of removing the balls from the feeders.

I don't mind because they are hungry, in the summer, as natural supplies of food are not readily available.

Re: Garden visitor

Last year a huge, mature horse chestnut tree was cut down a few houses away at the back of my garden and I was quite upset because I hate to see such majestic trees go. Anyway, I was weeding the other day and found a tiny horse chestnut sapling growing, so I suppose it must have been "planted" by a squirrel. I was so pleased but will have to dig it up and put it in a big pot so I can find it a new home because it's too big for my garden!

Re: Garden visitor

I love watching squirrels in the garden although they annoyingly dig up the front lawn to bury acorns .

A friend of mine had worse troubles than that with squirrels, they used to dig out the new plants she had planted in pots around the garden. No idea why as the plants were just dug out and left where they fell. Really strange but also very annoying after all the work that was put in.

Re: Garden visitor

Nice pictures Mags. You just captured him right, before he nipped off again.

A posh garden behind me, used to have a huge Walnut tree, so you can imagine I was over run with squirrels in autumn as they would be up there pinching the Walnuts.

I know some find them amusing, but they were a real nuisance here, because they would raid my bird tables throwing the food everywhere, and they used to dig all my tubs out early every morning, to hide the nuts they'd been pinching.
Every day I swept all the compost up and put it back round the plants, only to find that next day they'd done it again . . and again . . and again!

My Izzy, who I lost at the end of February used to go mad when they ran along the fence top. Now Iz has gone, they take liberties!
