Caterpillar I.D.

Have we any experts here who can identify a caterpillar for me please?

I have trawled through several 'Nature' websites and The Wildlife Trust, searching many moth and butterfly caterpillars, but cannot find the one I am looking for.

I was sorting through my stock of flowerpots yesterday, and saw a strange coloured caterpillar between the pots.
It was perhaps slightly over an inch long, quite chubby, and it had a wide-ish cream stripe down the centre of its back, and a wide soft pinky/red stripe down either side of its body.
I've never seen anything like it.

I'd love to know what it was - any ideas?

Shame you didn't take a pic of it. I'll Google caterpillars though. Was it hairy or smooth?

Mups Talking about caterpillars. The line of small shrubs in my daughter’s front garden look as if they are dying, every green leaf has gone!
On closer inspection they are covered in loads of caterpillars munching away!
They are moving onto the same shrubs in the neighbour’s garden.

I had a look, they have green and grey stripes.

There are thousands of butterfly, moth, sawfly & other species of caterpillar. Hard to identify without a pic.

Yes, I wish I had now Tiff.
Never seen a pink and cream one before, most unusual.
It was smooth.

Yes, that's true.
Also it might help if we knew what sort of shrubs they were munching on, as some make a bee-line for particlar plants.

You need to put on your deerstalker hat, grab a magnifying glass and hunt it down Mups! When you find it shoot it...

... with a camera and post it on here!

Hah, that made me laugh Tess.
I doubt I'll ever see it again though - pity.
