Lockdown further eased

Some good news from Boris a few minutes ago, particularly for the leisure industry, so let's just hope people are sensible and the virus doesn't come back to bite us...

Basic sicial distancing reduced to one metre from two, so that many businesses such as pubs, restaurants, holiday parks etc can open from 4th July, provided they mitigate as far as possible the need for close contact, particularly between staff and customers.

Re: Lockdown further eased

The prime minister has announced a series of measures easing the lockdown in England.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-52530518

  1. From 4 July the 2m distancing rule will be changed, and people should stay "one-metre plus" where a distance of 2m is not possible
  2. Two households of any size will be able to meet in any setting inside or out. This does not have to be the same set of households - but the government does not not recommend meetings of multiple households indoors because of the risk of infection
  3. Outdoors, people can meet in groups of up to six - but two households can meet regardless of size
  4. Restaurants and pubs can reopen. All hospitality indoors will be limited to table service and with minimal staff and customer contact. Customers will also have to give contact details when they enter
  5. Holiday accommodation - including hotels, B&Bs, cottages, campsites and caravan parks can reopen
  6. Indoor venues allowed to reopen include libraries, community centres, museums and galleries, amusement arcades and cinemas
  7. More outdoor spaces will open if they can do so safely, including outdoor gyms and children's playgrounds
  8. Hairdressers will be able to reopen, as long as they take precautions. Other close-contact services such as nail bars will not yet open, but the prime minister said they would be able to open "as soon as we're confident they can operate safely"
  9. Nightclubs and casinos remain closed, along with bowling alleys, spas, swimming pools and indoor soft play centres
Obviously, having been "freed", many people will NOT take precautions or consider safety .....

The changes won't make any difference to me, I will be staying alone and safe and will only emerge slowly in the months ahead when I see how things go.

I'm with you there Meg. One only has to look at Germany, Italy and Sweden to see that the virus has returned after easing of their lockdowns. It is such a risk to take for those of us at this age and health issues.

I'm afraid for me it's a case of ''Call me when there's a Vaccine''.

I agree with you, Meg. I'm waiting for surgery at the moment so the last thing I would need is a C19 infection!
