The Day of the Triffids (1963) 11:00-13:00 Thu 2nd Jul 2020 90m Horror Channel

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Da...Triffids_(film)

The Day of the Triffids is a 1962 British science fiction film in CinemaScope and Eastmancolor, produced by George Pitcher and Philip Yordan, and directed by Steve Sekely. It stars Howard Keel and Nicole Maurey, and is loosely based on the 1951 novel of the same name by John Wyndham.
Very loosely and very poorly made .... but oddly enjoyable .....

It was shown today but I missed it. I shall record it tomorrow.

That film describes my garden and how the weeds grow at times with all the rain we get!

Probably Japanese Knotweed ... I hear it's rampant stuff.

But it is a good film , for it's day .... plants not anchored by their roots. As scary as ' Invasion of the Bodysnatchers' with the giant pods ...

One day Mother Nature is so going to hammer mankind and pay us back.

If that is the Howard Keel film then it is bloody awful. I saw it when it first came out and thought it the biggest load of rubbish ever.

Don't waste your time watching it, nothing like the book and a stupid ending.

I remember studying the book at school which was better than the film but still watchable.

The book is excellent and there have been some good series made of the book but the 1963 version is definitely not one of them.

John Wyndam (sp?) used to be a favourite author - The Crysalids was my favourite though not as popular as The Day of the Triffids. The Midwich Cuckoos was also made into a film which I think was called The Children of the Damned (something like that) it was just OK certainly better than the Howard Keel Triffid film.

That's The Village of The Damned. John Wyndham's books were terrific pieces of science fiction for their time but I don't think they've lasted that well.

According to Wiki, John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris was an English science fiction writer best known for his works published under the pen name John Wyndham, although he also used other combinations of his names, such as John Beynon and Lucas Parkes. Some of his works were set in post-apocalyptic landscapes.

All of the films were absolute crap imho and wouldn't even rate being called a B-movie these days.
