Sciatica surgery

Hi
Had open surgery yesterday to relieve pain from sciatica. The surgeon performed disc root decompression and discectomy in two places. Had this Friday evening and the early signs are good, not too much pain.
Any one had similar op.

Re: Sciatica surgery

Wow,,

Glad you are feeling ok.
My mum was offered the surgery about 10 years ago but at the time felt there was too much risk. Things have moved on and that can only be a good thing..

Hope you are up and about soon.

Re: Sciatica surgery

No though i suffer from this occasionally, would be something that would give me pause for thought, but if it was permanent might be different to opt for surgery, best wishes hope it all works fine.

Yep been there. I think we have discussed it before but my op is detailed here

I have had a couple but they have been very good and lasted 10 years so far.

Re: Sciatica surgery

So pleased you are feeling OK after the op Mick.
Never had a op but have had Sciatica. Once had it for 2 weeks
and could hardly move and the pain was horrific.
Once thought it was good to lay down on the floor to help
the pain and couldn't get up for 4 hours till my son came home
from work
Wont try that again. When I start feeling a twinge I kind of sit
down with a cushion on my back and hope for the best.

Re: Sciatica surgery

Hi Mick my brother in law had an operation for sciatica some years ago, the pain used to go down his spine into his right leg and he couldn't walk. I guess it may be the same sort of operation .
It was a great success and he was able to return to playing golf after many years.

I hope your operation proves to be equally successful
