Re: Sugar Sugar and YET MORE SUGAR!

Could this thread be joined up with Marks sugar tax thread?
Would that be a good idea?

Re: Sugar Sugar and YET MORE SUGAR!

I can't stand that Jamie Oliver and yes loads of sugar he uses, also James Martin uses a whole bar of butter in his cooking, surely that can't be healthy.

Whether you admire him or can't stand him is not the point.
He's the messenger so don't shoot him til you've watched the programme.
The details that emerge will horrify you!!

Re: Sugar Sugar and YET MORE SUGAR!

Sugar butties, banana butties, jam butties and hot dripping butties were the norm when I was a child.

Re: Sugar Sugar and YET MORE SUGAR!

While children used to eat a lot of the above they were mainly as thin as lathes as they walked to school and played outside a lot.
Coke was not yet the drink of the planet not sugar laden pizza the national dish.

I saw the part of the programme .
Watching those children haveing their teeth removed was appalling .
More so the mother who had zero self control and none over the eating habits of her young children who were like herself already seriously overweight .

It's IMO tantamount to child neglect .
I think that Jamie Oliver is banging his head against a brick wall.
He talks sense but no one listens .
His school dinner reforms were stymied by stupid mothers shoving unhealthy snacks through school the school gates.

Sugar laden snacks should come with health warnings .

Something simple and to the point

Sugar will rot your teeth and make you fat .

Explaining about the rise in obesity and and it's results -the rise in diabetes a life threatening desease is too much for some people to grasp .

Re: Sugar Sugar and YET MORE SUGAR!

That report is so scarey, isn't it?

I'm sure, in a very non-scientific, just-me-looking-round-at-people way, that eating and drinking outside the home is a major factor in the so-called obesity crisis. You just don't know what's in these things

Surely it's not a coincidence that when I see a hand clutching a paper carry-out drink container, or a burger/sub or pizza slice it's attached to someone who could benefit from losing weight?

Amazing isn't it. The worse offender was the fruit drink ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35593007

Starbucks Hot mulled fruit - Grape with chai, orange, and cinnamon - Venti Hot mulled fruit. Teaspoons of sugar per serving: 25 .
