Re: ever thought about or run your own business?

Yes, Tony & I ran our own business for over 40 years.

We sold shoes & clothing for outsize people and also supplied workwear to industries such as British Gas.

When the TV series 'Peak Practice' was filming near us, the wardrobe dept often came to us if the wanted anything special for one of their large size actors. Once we provided a tug of war team with matching outfits. All huge men, nothing unusual though - just white t shirts & grey jogging bottoms.

We loved being self employed and made a comfortable living but never got rich.

This explains why Labour are going bankrupt. Paying for Abbott's work related clothing.

My ex partner was an entrepreneur and inventer.
He got fed up of being employed and one day sat at his kitchen table and thought about what sort of business he could start.

So he would start a business from nothing, build it up and then sell it.

By the age of 50, he was a multi millionaire and retired.

Ouch! I think you should file down those canines, Dex, and come up with some decent political arguments instead.

Re: ever thought about or run your own business?

I owned and operated a hair salon for 18 years in the 80s and 90s. It was rewarding, lucrative, and most of all I made lifetime friends. The business grew, I did my own bookkeeping and taxes, and loved having my hand in every aspect.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

That being said, it was time for two more career changes before I retired. Totally different careers, and no regrets.

That has a deal in common with quite a bit that I did and continue to do.

Sure will Arfa. Perhaps you'd like to get the ball rolling yourself one day

TAT, l think it’s all about taking the chance even if it might fail.

At the very beginning, he invented a humane mouse box. He couldn’t afford to get it patented and he his friend who owned a plastics company let a big company make and distribute it and they received royalties.

This humane mouse box is still available in most big DIY stores but in the end they sold the rights to the big company.

Hats off to anyone who sets up and runs a business.

Have always worked in the public sector, so knew I was never going to be rich and nor would I ever really be taking any real risks.

I had my own part time Complimentary Medical Practice for a while - but the Public Liability Insurance was extortionate. If I had put my prices up enough to cover it I would have put myself out of reach of those most in need of help.
