It's only salaried GPs that will get a rise. Most of them don't work for the NHS. They already had some sort of agreed 3 year contract increase before covid started.

Mainly on management consultants for all the restructurings they do and then having to pay for the reversals of their restructurings (which is what they are doing now - reversing the 2012 Health & social care Act).

Attendance and work are quite distinct, and always have been.

Certainly true in this age of being "pinged".

Re: NHS Pay Rise

Watching a programme the other day about this there was a male nurse speaking on there. He said he left home at 06.00 hrs and returned home that day at 23.00 hrs. Allowing one hour travelling each way that is a 14-hour day after also allowing for a one-hour meal break. He also said he had to do two additional shifts each month just to make ends meet. The week he works then is 5 x 14 hours – a 70-hour week so paying about £8.24 an hour. The weekly pay at £30,000 pa is £576.92 minus about 25% deductions = £432.69 a week take home pay.

Would any skilled person work that amount of hours for what weekly wage, to say nothing of the stress involved looking after patients with coronavirus? I know for sure that I definitely would not!

It's all well and good stating annual incomes but nothing about the actual work or the type of work that is done each day. Those are very long hours and with that type of work must be very stressful. I wonder just how many nursing staff will be experiencing severe burn-out and mental health problems in future months? All that has yet to be realised and seen.

Re: NHS Pay Rise

One thing that people don't realise is that nurses work many hours for free over and above their salary because they do not want to leave patients at risk. Because there are not enough nurses to go around as they cannot recruit. A nurse explained this to me. But at the moment that's all exacerbated by the pandemic and people having to self isolate or getting sick with covid. Same is true at GP surgeries and as we have seen supermarket deliveries....

Bizarre how nobody can see this.

I worked on 3, 8hr shifts for 5yrs and 2, 12 hr shifts for 2yrs after that back in the day, Donks and for a damned sight less than £30k/yr. IIRC my salary (including shift premiums) was something like £400-500/month.
