End of an Era, last round £1 Coin Minted

Hi

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35115685

This will be fun, every vending machine will have to be changed and all those supermarket trolleys.

I quite like the design of the new one.

We are also getting plastic £5 notes next year, how times change.

Not such a new design as it looks like the old threepence

I saw this on the news last night, and thought the same as you, solo. They're like the old threepenny bits. Quite nice though. Wouldn't mind a sack full anyway.

At first, I thought, ' if it ain't broke why fix it'!! Then I thought, there must be so many fake pound coins around that maybe that's another reason for the new design. The new version looks nice enough but probably won't be so nice when it's dull and full of muck and germs!!

My husband was saying vending businesses may not survive this one they have seen a big downturn in business last 5 years and changing the coin mechs again maybe too much 🙁

I have an old threepenny piece and it is not a lot smaller than the £1 coin. It is, however, quite a bit thinner. I wonder if the new £1 coin will be the same dimension but thinner to save on cost of production.

They'll ALWAYS be looking for a way to save cost ... and probably make it worth less too.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the UK ought to go back to the £sd. It was much easier to work with.

You don't speak for me I only ever learned the decimal system, the old money was well on the way out when I started school 🎄

You certainly don't speak for me AO. What could be easier to remember than 100p=£1, much easier than 12d=1s and 20s=£1.
