My grandad was gravely ill, so we smeared his back with lard..after that he went downhill fast.....

Do you know, I have never, ever eaten bread and dripping?

When I first heard of it, it sounded revolting, because I was thinking of it being just pure fat, but many years later, I realised that it was the jellified meaty juices from a roast, so was probably very tasty!


I do, though, remember eating a lot of bread and butter and sugar as a child. As in bread and butter with sugar sprinkled on it.

Blahugh to that now, though!

I don't have any lard in my life. I remember my parents cooking with it when I was a child, but people use olive oil more these days don't they?
Unless they're humongous and they have no regard for their health.
