Greta Thunberg and her ilk are not arguing against plastic or modern conveniences they are arguing against pollution a totally different issue.

These are all the same strawman arguments used against her, as irrelevant as they are stupid.

Remember that generation referred to so glowingly in the earlier post was the same one that thought it perfectly acceptable to load all their garbage into barges and dump it in the North Sea. The same mob that, when they had completely fished out their own fishing grounds thought it perfectly acceptable to go and steal from another nation's fishing grounds.

Re: Is this what life will be like...

I am not sure anybody can explain the strange weather we are having, but in this very short time of Lockdown there is less traffic on our roads, very limited numbers of flights and it has already been shown to improve the air quality.
This thought reminds me that the reason we use so much of the Earths resources is probably because there are too many humans.... and they all want more.

Life may not be as easy, if we had to change the way we live, but perhaps we would re-learn how to do things the way our ancestors did. This Coronavirus has made me realize that we all need to know how to look after ourselves, rather than rely on mass production of machines & food to keep us alive.

This virus just shows the vulnerability and arrogance of mankind. There is worse to come one day....not if but when one of the earths super volcanoes erupts.

For example the bay of Naples has a population of over 3 million today, just a few miles from the slopes of Vesuvius and ancient Pompeii.

I for one am glad I won't be here.

The San Andreas Fault could cause problems too.

Perhaps if she spent more time in school learning she may have realized that most of the options that she demanding were our young lives, no plastic bottles only glass which were returned for re-use and in the case of milk were delivered to the doorstep on electric vehicles, no items in plastic bags, most were loose and then put into paper bags or directly into shopping bags, fish and chips in recycled newspapers, no big 4x4's doing the school run, we walked or caught a bus, no ready meals in plastic packaging just fresh meals made by mum which often consisted of what ever was left in the larder, no kids stuck indoors playing video games and using up electricity we were out in the streets or any local playing fields or out on our bikes, no mobile phones that are using up valuable and rare metals that have to be mined and the finished items flown from the other side of the world and then the phones are renewed for the latest model when the wrapper has barely been taken off the "old" one, no flying to exotic locations for holidays each year, a day trip to the sea-side was a big treat for many.
Greta Thunborg, it was not us who have ruined this planet, it is your generation that it is being ruined for. Get your own house in order before you blame others !
I missed this until now.....Brilliant post Ray........

Yes she is Bruce....

And they are not 'Strawman' arguments' are they...

It's her generation that are continuing to carry forward progress, which in turn places much more pressure on the planet we live on. Nothing wrong with the things she is suggesting, but to apportion blame on previous generations is a cop out and an excuse by her generation not to accept responsibility for their own actions.

She is blaming the wrong section of society who can't be blamed for making use of the labour saving devices and pleasures that the greedy money making industrialists are working on even as we speak. nobody asked for HS2 or 5G or autonomous vehicles or smart motorways etc, but only a fool would not take advantage of them once they have been provided.

Progress will end up destroying the human race, if it hasn't already done so by allowing the spread of Covid19 at a catastrophic speed thanks to the invention of the aeroplane. It seemed like a good idea at the time....

Never mind there are help lines for people obsessed with anger and abusing children.
