Community Phlebotomist.

Hi

Just been, a nightmare to arrange with the GP.

An absolute pleasure, 4 lots of blood, did not hurt a bit.

I was expecting problems as my Blood Pressure had tanked, not the case, a very professional lady.

Brilliant service.

Whilst I appreciate their services and what they do for us their patients, I see it as nursing on the cheap, just like the HCA's who take on many tasks that used to be the domain of nurses.

Having a trained phlebotomist take bloods is far better than having a lot of nurses do it LongDriver. The phlebotomists do this day in, day out and are the experts. They make the process as comfortable as they can for the patients. Some nurses don't take many bloods these days and using a phlebotomist really is the best use of resources.

I agree .....

I have regular (usually monthly) blood tests to determine whether I need venesections (blood-lettings) to lower my body's iron content .....

Re: Community Phlebotomist.

When you finally get in front of the Practice staff, the service is excellent.

However, after years of warfarin blood tests I must admit to fixing sessions to avoid the worst jabbers (usually Doctors) and getting the nurses who did a "don't feel a thing" service.

I listed the names and made appointments accordingly!

Warfarin seems, nowadays, to have been kicked into touch, in favour of e.g. Apixaban tablets, which are more expensive but no jabbing is needed so that balances their costs - and jabbing experience.

Still get the 30 minute telephone wait though....!
