I've never said it to a friend in case she thought I had designs on her

me too but it's not the same as verbally saying it, it's normal to do so with cards but you don't actually say hugs to a friend

Re: Have you ever said 'I love you' to....

I have said I love you lots of times to my friends. I would never have
thought about it 40 years ago but nowadays I do. My friends have been
my friends for 40 to nearly 60 years now I went to school with some.
My best friend has had cancer and is now in remission, it may come back
so I do love her as I would miss her terribly if anything happened to her.
My good friends are like Sisters to me.
I also said it to the Nurses the other week at the hospital when I finished my Radio Therapy. I said as much as I love you all I wont be back tomorrow.
That is something I really meant

People have been known to say that to me - so, Yes, I think it counts!

I have several friends that I am fond of - but only three that I would actually say that I love and, yes, I have told them - no problem - they love me too.

I must admit it I have never thought of it meaning I love you when I put xx in text messages.

But I cannot out loud say I love you to someone, don't know if it is a northern thing, an age thing or just a me thing.

Re: Have you ever said 'I love you' to....

Only to the wife and kids, I love them all so why not say it. However I do “like” an awful lot of people, but if I went around telling my friends I loved them they’d think I finally lost me marbles.
