Friday 01 May at 11.00am I posted a birthday card (2nd class stamp as that's all I had) that I wanted to arrive just 100 miles away on 05 May. The village postbox usually had a last collection at 16.15 hours but that had been changed to just one each day at 09.00am Monday to Saturday, so I missed the post that day. It was collected from there on the Saturday at 09.00am.

The card did arrive at its destination mid-morning on the exact day. That means it took three-and-half days to travel 100 miles for the cost of 61p – .061p a mile. By comparison a letter or card to Australia (Tasmania) takes 10 days to travel 10,751 miles for the cost of £2.25 – approximately 0.02p a mile, UK mail is expensive by that comparison!

I received a birthday card through through royal mail yesterday, 2 weeks early, I guess my friend who sent it was worried it wouldn't get here in time so made sure she sent it in GOOD time LOL
