I've often thought of this one, I read a lot of post apocalyptic fiction so it makes me think.I think first thing I'd do is gather as much water as I could because that's where people in books go wrong, then it's food and shelter. Preferably somewhere with a farm or big garden attached.
Petrol only lasts a short while before not working so everything has to be gathered and in place in 6-12 months.
In reality I'd cry and probably die though.
