Hi

Spain would only lose around 0.3% of it's economy in total if all the Brits left, although obviously the effect would be much greater in the coastal areas with large expat communities.

What they will suffer from is any decline in the tourist industry due to any fall in the value of the £ and the need for holiday medical insurance, the costs of which will rise substantially as the EHIC will no longer be valid.

Just a response I only take in 10% on what newspapers report. The other 90 I make up my own mind. If you are referring to the Daily Mail recently an inaccurate report was printed. It actually affected our region. Subsequently residents had over 40,000 signatures of support against the Daily Mail. . But it was an exercise simply to prove a point as we are so chilled. So perhaps the typo was justified

Think in the short term the pound might lose some value against the Euro but in the long term when things sort them selves out the £ would gather strength against the Euro the $ is another matter.

As I understood it, I believe that until recently the pound was performing better than the Euro.

Re: Ex Pat what could happen on EU exit

Hi

The chart is here

http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?fr...to=EUR&view=1Y

Not good reading, as the £ falls the cost of borrowing on the International Markets rises.

We need to borrow £70 Billion this year alone, so either Tax Rises or yet more austerity.

When we leave, some of the money markets are looking at parity, £1 to 1 Euro, which will cost us a mint in increased Interest Payments.

The £ will of course rise again after Brexit in the longer term, but the longer term they are talking about is a minimum of 5 years.

I have no real idea what will happen, all I am sure of is that it is out of our hands, it will be decided abroad by those who lend us money.
