Vendee globe yacht race!!

Exciting times in the south atlantic this week!!
One yacht retired due to to two seperate breakages to the hull !
One yacht forced to retire with a broken rudder !
And one yacht broken in half and skipper having to be rescued !
All this before the fleet has left the atlantic ocean??
How many will make all the way at this rate??
It seems the new lightweight materials are not up to the conditions
in the southern oceans all the retirements were hull related??
However this has created some real drama in the race if you read
the official account of the rescue andndemonstrates the
sportsmanship between these contestants as four of them basically
gave up their chances of winning to search for and rescue the
unlucky skipper was adrift in a small survival dinghy !!
Bravo! to all involved !!

Nothing new Brucy, just the scale of it ?
Sydney to Hobart allthough a tough race, is only a sprint compared
to non stop, single handed events??
As you say, nothing is new, do you remember when south african
yachtsman Bertie Read, rescued fellow south african skipper from
the southern ocean during a single handed non stop circumnavigation
event some years ago?? In doing this he gave up any chance of
winning the race,,( which he was leading at the time!)
These yachtsmen& women epitomise what ""sport" is all about !!
Unlike some cricketers l could mention ??

Yes, it’s been quite an exciting few days. I knew that the roaring 40s would prey on these yachtsmen!

Cam took quite some time to find Escoffier!

I see 'they' are messing up the Fastnet next year. New route from Cowes via Fastnet Rock - to cherbourg!! Why for goodness sake? It has always been Cowes to Plymouth - why do 'they' have to change things?

Perhaps you should point out to Assman that Tasmania is in the roaring forties and that both the clips I showed took part in either the roaring forties or the even more severe Southern Ocean.

I did say that the Sydney/Hobart race was indeed a tough race?
But when l inferred it was just a srint when compared to a
circumnavigation race it should have been obvious that l referred
to the distance and time difference between the two events??
That you didnt understand this leads me to the conclusion that
you either dont read the posts properly or are rather dense ??
Take your pick !!

Donkeyman! 😁😁
Oh Assman perhaps you should just stop posting silly responses.
